Psychodynamic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

I believe in we need to understand who we are and how our experiences shape us and the way we view the world.  This allows us to understand how these beliefs and values have an impact on us in our daily living.

AND

We need to incorporate cognitive behavioral techniques to challenge our negative beliefs and thinking patterns and reframe them for a healthier mindset.

Psychodynamic informed CBT can

  • help you understand yourself better including your thoughts and emotions.

  • Managing stress and anxiety and negative thinking patterns.

  • Develop tools and learn new skills for coping.

  • Change your mindset and outlook on life.

Help you become aligned with being a more authentic self.

What to expect:

Psychodynamic therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are two different therapeutic approaches that are often used separately. However, I like to integrate these two approaches to create a more personalized and effective treatment plan for you.

When using a psychodynamic approach with CBT, you can expect:

  • to focus on exploring unconscious patterns of behavior and emotional conflicts that may be causing distress. I will encourage you to discuss past experiences and how they may be impacting your present emotions and behaviors.

    • This will include exploring your upbringing, culture, life experiences, and identities to understand how they contribute to who you are, how that impacts your worldview or lens, and how you cope with things.

  • In addition, we will identify negative thought patterns and cognitive distortions that are contributing to your symptoms. You will work together with me to reframe these thoughts and learn new coping skills to manage your emotions.

    • We will identify new coping skills which are specific to you and continue to practice these in order to continue building these skills.

  • Overall, therapy using a psychodynamic-CBT approach can be helpful for individuals who are struggling with a range of emotional and behavioral issues. It can help you gain insight into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and provide you with the tools to manage your symptoms effectively.
